Romano rules out Man Utd move for £224m duo and delivers takeover update
Man Utd will not pursue deals for Paris Saint-Germain duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar under the current ownership, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Reports have claimed in recent days that Mbappe is set to join Real Madrid in a deal worth €250m as PSG look to sell the forward after he announced he wouldn’t be renewing his deal in Paris.
It is claimed that Real Madrid would pay €200m, with another €50m in bonuses on top, making it the most expensive transfer in football history, eclipsing Neymar’s €222m move to PSG.
Rumours that Mbappe could be leaving Paris this summer sparked speculation that Man Utd and other Premier League clubs could attempt to lure him to England.
One report in Spain claimed that Man Utd were eyeing the ‘coup of the century’ with the Red Devils ‘prepared to get ahead of Real Madrid for Mbappe’.
There were suggestions that Real Madrid has ‘not forgiven Mbappe’s betrayal by renewing with Paris Saint-Germain’ and that Man Utd would ‘invest whatever it takes’ to beat Los Blancos to his signature.

However, that seems completely false with Romano insisting there will be no extravagant deals for Mbappe or Neymar while the Glazers are still at the club.
Romano told GiveMeSport: “What we can say is that, with the Glazers, this is absolutely not a topic.
“For sure, they are not working on that or Neymar because we know the Glazers are going in a different direction.”
Man Utd are currently in the middle of a long, drawn-out takeover process with bids on the table from Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim and INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Sheikh Jassim has now made five bids for the club and Ratcliffe three, as both parties look to please the Glazers and win the race to take over the Premier League club.
And Romano says it’s now all “on the Glazers” to make up their minds and accept an offer with Sheikh Jassim “convinced” his bid is best for the football club.
Romano added: “I understand Manchester United fans being tired about the story, but it is about closing the deal.
“It’s on the Glazers. I think Sheikh Jassim did his best with his bid. He’s convinced his bid is very good for the future, so let’s wait and see.”
