If you’re the owner of a commercial vehicle, getting your truck or car FASTag-enabled & its KYC can save you money and time in numerous ways. You can use it to drive through toll booths without having to stop and pay or physically stop at the tollbooth. Instead, you can just wave your tag as you drive through—and if you have an RFID tag, you may not even need to wave it!
Benefits of FASTag
One of its main uses is to ensure that vehicles only use toll roads during peak hours. This helps reduce traffic congestion and lets vehicles pass through toll plazas quickly. The RFID chip in your tag emits a radio signal, so the system can automatically record toll transactions as you drive by. As soon as your car passes under an antenna at a booth, it’s tallied. So, if you use your car to commute every day, getting a FASTag may help reduce congestion on local roads too. It works like your EZPass or SunPass without needing extra hardware in your vehicle.
Benefits of eKYC
Your eKYC application not only ensures that you get your work done in no time, but also provides you with several benefits. If approved for an eKYC registration, all you need to do is key in your 12-digit Aadhaar number on a machine installed at toll plazas while passing through them. You will then be issued a electronic receipt indicating that your payment has been made successfully. Your name and vehicle details will be registered electronically with respect to toll tax payable at each of these places. These facilities are available at all toll plazas across India where electronic toll collection systems are functional. Since these machines accept only cashless payments, one cannot access their favourite McDonald’s or Pizza Hut without an Aadhar card or Fast Tag!
How to get your eKYC
eKYC is now available to all customers. To get your eKYC, you need an Aadhaar card. If you don’t have one, then visit your nearest Aadhaar center to get enrolled for an Aadhaar card. This may take time, so do it early on. Once you have an Aadhaar card, open the RTO app or web portal of your State Transport Department and register for eKYC. You will be asked to enter some details like date of birth etc. Upon successful completion of your eKYC process, you will receive an OTP (One Time Password) on your registered mobile number as well as email address that you used while registering with RTO website/app.
Know the documentation required with eKYC
To travel on Indian highways, you must have an e-passport that’s valid for at least six months. If you’re driving with more than two passengers, your vehicle will also need to carry proof of insurance. Most importantly, every vehicle driver needs a FASTag. A Fast tag is essentially an RFID-based toll collection device that allows vehicles to pass through toll gates without having to stop. It can be purchased from authorized dealers at Rs 50, though it can be recharged for as little as Rs 10 (for 30 minutes). Some states also provide free tags in certain situations or automatically deduct charges from a bank account or prepaid wallet like Paytm when one enters a toll gate.
Benefits of Aadhaar based eKYC
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of Government of India. It captures your biometric details (10 finger prints, iris scan, and photo) along with demographic information (name, date of birth, gender & address). It allows you to avail various services like banking products, financial services, telecom & insurance in an easier way. For example: Aadhaar based eKYC can help truckers get their driving license easily through just their thumb impression or Aadhaar based PoS machines eliminate credit card frauds by verifying identity before purchase. UIDAI is working towards providing financial access to all segments of society through inclusive growth while curbing diversion & leakages in subsidy delivery system.
